In 1998, the Wagners living in Dallas and the parents of three young children recognized a need for manufacturing custom orthotics in the Kansas City metropolitan area. They quickly got to work and moved their family from Dallas to Kansas City. With Ron’s prior lab experience and Kari’s business expertise, Mid Star Lab was up and running within six weeks after arriving in Kansas.
For years, the Wagners sold wholesale to podiatrists and other foot care providers throughout the Midwest. In the fall of 2011, Mid Star Lab began expanding their services to not only manufacturing the devices, but also diversifying their product line to include shoes. Mid Star Lab also started servicing their patients directly. In less than a year, the family would have to move their main manufacturing facility to Edwardsville, Kansas to accommodate their growing need. Since that pivotal moment in 2011, Kari and Ron have opened five new locations, plus they service patients at five other hospitals on-site.
The Wagner’s commitment to serve the foot care industry is carried on by their two youngest children, daughters Jennifer and Kelsey. Kelsey continues to pursue her residency as a Certified Orthotist in South Dakota. Jennifer is a BOCPD Pedorthist and has helped her parents open all of the clinics at their on-site locations, where she trained most of the Mid Star Lab clinicians. Jennifer is currently the Director of Training and Education. Joining Jennifer in the growing family tradition is her husband Jack, an ABC Certified Pedorthist who has assisted with the opening of several clinics and currently serves as the IT manager and part-time clinician. The Wagners are hoping to pass their legacy down to the third generation with the recent addition of Jennifer and Jack’s son, Josiah, born in 2014 and Justus, born in 2016.
Mid Star Lab is a Woman Owned, America Indian, 8a Certified Company. The Wagners plan to continue to grow and share their passion for helping physicians and patients with their foot care needs across the country.
